Nerd Block September 2014 Mystery Box Review

Nerd Block - 02

My Nerd Block for September has finally arrived, and it includes items from Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more. But the most interesting item that stood out is the STD plush. Yes, Nerd Block just gave me an STD.

With that said, this month’s box is a little lackluster for my taste. I love nerdy t-shirts and Guardians of the Galaxy, but I wasn’t too keen on the shirt provided. Instead of seeing Rocket, Groot or any of the other characters, we get an image of the Awesome Mix Vol 1 cassette tape. If you dig the shirt, then you should be very happy. Estimated value is $10.

Nerd Block - 07

Before anything else, we have to talk about the STD plush toy from Giant Microbes. I received the Syphilis one. Usually if I were to see this at a convention, I would buy one just because it’s a funny yet educational item. However, being that this is Nerd Block, I didn’t think it was the right fit. The item retails for $9.95 at the Giant Microbes site.

Nerd Block - 03

The next item on the list is the Scribblenauts Unmasked DC figures. These are cute, and your enjoyment will be based on what mysterious figure you get. I’m not a fan of Cyborg, so receiving him was a letdown. These are going for $4.95 at GameStop.

Nerd Block - 05

And then there’s the Mega Blocks Marvel mystery figures. Like the Scribblenauts above, your happiness will be based on whether or not you get a character you like. There are many characters to get, but I got Marvel Series 3 Havok, Cyclop’s brother. He’s also a common figure. I’m not a fan of the designs for the Mega Blocks figures, so I would be disappointed either way. The packs are going for $7.95 each on Amazon.

Nerd Block - 08

If you love Funko’s Boxos Papercraft Playset and Ninja Turtles, then you should love this. Yes, it includes all the turtles (Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo), Master Splinter, Shredder, a Foot soldier, the Turtle Van, and more. At the time of this writing, Toys R Us is having it for $3.48.

Nerd Block - 06

Last and definitely least is the Nerd Block Stress Brain. The brain is to commemorate the one-year anniversary for the nerdy monthly subscription box. The actual value on the Nerd Block version may be different, but you can get a generic one for $1.49 at Office Playground.

Nerd Block - 04

The total value is estimated to be at around $38. With the items I have received and the value, this month’s box is definitely not recommended.
