Chris Pratt to host season premiere of SNL

There seems to be no stopping Chris Pratt lately. He’s going on his seventh season playing Andy Dwyer in NBC’s Parks and Recreation, he’s had a number of supporting roles in some critically acclaimed movies like Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty and Her, is the star of the monster hit film Guardians of the Galaxy and now he’ll be hosting the season premiere of Saturday Night Live, a gig that usually means you’ve ‘made it’ in the business.

NBC announced earlier today that he’ll kick off the 40th season of the long-running variety show on September 27th with Ariana Grande joining him as the musical guest. It will be the first time that either of them have been on the show. That’s not the case for Sarah Silverman and Maroon 5 who will take the reigns for the second episode the following week. Furthermore, there’s rumors that Bill Murray could show up to host the third episode.

SNL is coming off arguably one of its weakest seasons and is going through a state of transition, having lost some of its greatest players like Bill Hader, Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig while hiring several cast members last year, many of which have already been fired. Maybe a host as dynamic as Chris Pratt will help the show get back on track. And I’m sure all Marvel fans will be hoping for a Guardians sketch. We’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for Star-Lord and his zany SNL co-stars.
