Guardians of the Galaxy moves up, the top 2 films of 2014 in the U.S. are Marvel films

Disney buying out Marvel was a good move, and we have seen it play out many times before, especially today. Guardians of the Galaxy has just passed The LEGO Movie in box office gross in 2014 nationwide. This means that Marvel has two films at the top two spots, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier still #1 with $259 million. Guardians of the Galaxy is about to pass that film as well, since it’s received $258 million, and it’s still moving on up.

When it comes to the worldwide box office, both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy are behind, with Transformers: Age of Extinction still the king at $1 billion. It still needs to beat other movies, including Disney’s very own Maleficent (it earned $747 million).

What’s funny is that Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy and Emmet in The LEGO Movie, has two film in the top 3 spot.
