It’s been a battle between Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the domestic box office weekend gross. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been at the #1 spot for two weeks in a row, but Guardians of the Galaxy is now back at the top spot this weekend with $17.63 million. This is the second time Guardians has been at the #1 spot.

Guardians of the Galaxy has surpassed Transformers: Age of Extinction to become the top grossing film of the summer at the domestic box office with an estimated $251.88 million (Worldwide gross is $489.4 million). Guardians is expected to become the highest grossing film of 2014 by Friday, bumping off fellow Marvel film Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The most disappointing news is Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. It opened at a meager $6.48 million during the weekend. That’s pretty bad compared to the first Sin City opening at $29 million. The hype for the movie has probably vanished since it’s been a while since the first movie came out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took in $16.8 million this weekend adding to the $145.61 million domestic total and $238.8 million worldwide total.

Both Guardians and TMNT beat out teen flick If I Stay, which earned $16.36 million.
