Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trumps Guardians and also gets a sequel

teenage mutant ninja turtles 2

Love it or hate it, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film produced by Michael Bay has reigned supreme at the U.S. box office over the weekend, beating out Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie has earned an estimated $65 million, making it the fourth all-time for the month of August. The last Turtle movie, TMNT, earned $24 million for its opening weekend, but earned only $54 million in total.

Although Guardians of the Galaxy was knocked off due to it earning $41.5 million over the weekend, its second week is still the biggest second week in the summer. The film has earned $175 million so far.

With the Turtles film doing good, Paramount has announced that there will be a sequel, with a release date already set for June 3, 2016. It will be out during the same year with Captain America 3 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It’s not revealed whether director Jonathan Liebesman will return, but Michael Bay will be back as producer, with Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec working on story.

Let us know your thoughts on the movie and whether you’re looking forward to the sequel. For me, I hope they bring Bebop and Rocksteady to the big screen.
