First picture of Sir Ian McKellen as Sherlock Holmes

Very few fictional characters have the longevity or popularity of Sherlock Holmes. Created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887, the character is now 127 years young, and between the variations of his persona on television and the big screen, the character’s popularity has hit a fevered pitch. And we will see yet another performer add his name to the company who have portrayed the great detective, and that name is Sir Ian McKellen.

McKellen will be playing an elderly Holmes during his final days when he is losing his memory in a film adaptation of the novel “A Slight Trick of the Mind” written by Mitch Cullin. McKellen recently tweeted the first picture of himself in the role and I have to say that he looks…like Ian McKellen. However, with his hawkish nose and sharp features, no one should have a problem imagining him as Holmes. This really is brilliant casting and I can’t wait to see what McKellen brings to the part. What do you guys think?

Mr. Holmes
