Every season, HBO’s Game of Thrones and Brewery Ommegang releases a beer in relation to the series. The past brews have been sold out within weeks and are still talked about today – Iron Throne (Spring 2013), Take the Black Stout (Fall 2013), Fire and Blood (currently) and soon, Valar Morghulisgame of thrones beer

If you’re a fan of the show, you know the term means “all men must die”, but we decided to change it up and say, “All men (and women) must drink”!

The name was voted from their official Facebook page, beating other names like Seven Kingdoms, Hand of the King, and Khal. Rightly so, Valar Morghulis was a theme for this past season of the show. This was Arya Stark’s mantra when she listed the names of those she wanted to kill to avenge for her family.

Valar Morghulis is an Abbey Dubbel, a classic Belgain beer style. It is described as, brewed with pilsner and other specialty malts and hopped with Apollo and Hallertau Spalt Select hops. The hue is deep amber-brown with a persistent, creamy, off-white head. Aromas include caramel, toffee, ripe fruit, banana and slightly burnt sugar. The taste is well-balanced with rich malty sweetness, caramel and sugar, and just a touch of bitterness to balance. The finish is surprisingly dry and light on the tongue, belying the aroma and initial taste.” Delicious.

As for the label, it will feature the two-headed coin that Arya Stark carries, given to her by Jaqen H’ghar, one of the “Faceless Men of Braavos”. Each cork will be fire-branded with Valar Dohaeris which is a response to Valar Morghulis meaning “all men must serve.”

Valar Morghulis will be available nationall this fall on draft (sixth-barrels) and in corked bottles (25.4 ounces) and retails at $8.50 per bottle.
