Loot Crate July 2014 Villains Mystery Box Review
I have been checking out Loot Crate for some time now, and they can sometime be a hit and miss. Recently, they have been stepping it up. Villains is the theme for the month of July, and we’re given a dose of villainy from the comic, video game and sci-fi world. Read on further to see what items are included.
The thing that’s always helpful is the mini-magazine that’s contained in the mystery box. This month it includes an introduction, featured photos of Looters (Loot Crate subscribers), interview with an artist, top gaming villains list, puzzles, a list of this month’s items and more.
Since my favorite nerd items are t-shirts, I’m happy that this month’s Loot Crate. It’s a mashup t-shirt of Loki and the Joker called Joki. You can see Joki sitting down on his thrown with staff in hand.
Loot Crate has been teasing the Rocket Raccoon comic, so it’s no surprise to find the issue inside the box. The cover is a Loot Crate exclusive and features Thanos and Rocket on the cover. (Rocket can be seen holding the Loot Crate box.) This is perfect for those hyped for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. (I’ve gotten a chance to see it early, and Rocket is easily the fan-favorite.) The comic book is valued at $3.99.
Next up are the mini posters featuring Harley Quinn and the Joker. Harley is donning her Arkham City outfit, and the Joker is looking crazy with Bats in his eyes…and hair. The posters are rolled up inside a plastic sleeve. When taking it out, it’ll be hard to keep flat at first, but if you put some heavy books over it for a couple of hours, it should fix itself.
Not only do we get a t-shirt in this month’s box, but we also get a pair of socks. Not just any socks, but Deadpool socks. I do consider him more of an anti-hero though.
If you like comic book documentaries, then you’ll definitely dig the Necessary Evil DVD. It is a documentary about DC villains, with Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) narrating.
Yeah, it’s pretty heavy on the comic books, so to “kinda” balance things out, the last two items are sci-fi movie and video game related.
For the sci-fi fans out there, we get a Star Wars Darth Vader key chain. He’s a very popular villain, so I’m pretty sure many of you will get a kick out of it.
And lastly, we have the Super Mario Bowser magnet. The magnet is inspired by Uncle Sam’s I Want You posters, so stick this on your fridge and recruit your local goons. (As seen on the second to top pic.)
The Loot Crate pin features Deadpool, Darth Vader, and Harley Quinn. (Loki is cut off.)
Loot Crate’s July 2014 mystery box is definitely worth the money, since you’re getting a t-shirt, comic book, socks, posters, a DVD and more. Subscribe for just $13.37 per month + S/H at LootCrate.com.
