AX 2014: Kill la Kill Special Event report and gallery

AX-2014_LogoIn what can only be described as the ultimate event for any Kill la Kill fan, Anime Expo and Aniplex gave us just what we wanted, and so much more. On day two (Friday the 4th) of Anime Expo 2014, special gusts flew in from Japan to give their fans in the U.S. an amazing panel and grand performance. Guests of honor included:

  • Kazuki Nakashima – Screenwriter
  • SUSHIO – Character Designer and Chief Animation Director
  • Ami Koshimizu –  Ryuko Matoi
  • Ryoka Yuzuki – Satsuki Kiryuin
  • Yousuke Toba – Producer

The Panel began with chants of SUSHIO, as cast members entered the stage in costume. Both voice actresses were dressed in wonderful cosplays depicting their character.  Questions ranged from personal experiences to general discussion about the future of Kill la Kill and it’s dubbed version, screened prior to the Q&A.

Funny enough, Sushio was separated from the cast, and asked to draw through the entire panel. The result is posted just below.

Following the panel, an amazing performance by the talented Eir Aoi, whose singles “Sirius” and “Sanbika” are both featured in the highly popular TV anime series “KILL la KILL.

Attendees of the performance were also handed an electronic glowstick with the Kill la Kill emblem as well as Aoi’s logo. These lit up and flashed with pre-programming for the performance and enhanced the atmosphere quite significantly. This is something I would love to see in future performances.

A higher stage or change of venue would have made this an absolutely perfect event.
