Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment – How much is too much?

**NOTE: This is an opinion piece**

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have been very busy these past couple months getting their upcoming DC Cinematic Universe setup. They’re already underway in filming for Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and some of the released set pics already look interesting. WB has already released several DC characters that are going to “appear” in this current movie, and it looks like a majority of the main Justice League members are going to be there – a recent addition is Aquaman with Martian Manhunter as a possibility. In addition to this news is that WB may also release seven DC Comics superhero movies within the next two years to try and support the creation of their cinematic universe. As nice this sounds, I think we have to ask ourselves – how much is too much?

Martian Manhunter casting for future Justice League movie?

I don’t know about you, but I think WB needs to pull the reigns back just a bit. Of course some of you may disagree with me and that’s fine. However, let’s take a step back and look at this from a step-by-step outside perspective. Man of Steel was only recently released into theaters last year which was set to jump start the DC Cinematic Universe. Then they included Easter Eggs in the movie to show that Batman, or Bruce Wayne for that matter, exists in the same world as Henry Cavill’s Superman; which leads us to Batman vs. Superman. After the craziness of this current news and Zack Snyder’s tickling of our fancies with Batman’s gidgets and gadgets aplenty, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, along with Aquaman and again possibly Martian Manhunter, are supposed to show up in the movie as well.

Really? Do they all really need to be in this movie right now? Yes, I know they’re “cameos”, but it certainly feels like WB just wants to shove as many characters into this movie just for fan service without proper introductions. The movie should just be called Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Easter Eggs, because that’s what it’s going to feel like if this isn’t done properly. My main annoyances to all these characters suddenly showing up in this sequel is that they haven’t even been introduced, and yet we’re supposed to believe they’ve already been around all this time? Where was Wonder Woman when Zod was attacking? Where was Aquaman when the World Engine was about to destroy the planet? Where was Cyborg when the alien spaceships entered Earth’s orbit? What was Martian Manhunter doing out in space as Zod’s ships flew into our solar system? Why? Where? Who? When? *tears out hair*

The next thing I’m a bit disturbed about is that WB is rumored to release SEVEN of their DC movies in the next TWO years. ಠ_ಠ Seven? In two…*facepalm*…two years? Really? That’s just utterly and completely idiotic if that happens and here’s why. I didn’t want to bring Marvel’s success into this piece, but I’m going to have to. Yes, it has everything to do with Marvel, because Marvel is coasting on their success train and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop right now. While on the other hand, WB/DC’s steam train barely left the station and is having slight engine problems despite them shoveling all their coal into the furnace. Aside from that analogy, WB/DC really really REALLY wants to be where Marvel is right now, and they’re throwing everything they have to get there. It took Marvel about 8+ years of planning and introduction of their characters to get where they are today and to match that, WB/DC literally wants to saturate the market in the shortest amount of time which will only prove disastrous for this blooming genre. Seriously, they could literally kill it and make people completely sick of superhero movies for everyone, and that’s the last thing I want to see.

The term “Go big, or go home!” is ringing true for WB right now – of course I don’t believe that’s the right attitude they should have, because I want the Justice League to actually be a GOOD movie, instead of a rushed release of them fighting off Darkseid just to one-up Marvel’s Avengers 3, where their entire Marvel Cinematic Universe is rumored to take on Thanos. I was fairly excited about Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but my attitude has changed from excitement to wary since I really don’t know what to expect anymore since WB/DC is attempting to shove all this cake into my face early on. Cake is good, but too much cake can give you diabetes. I hope I’m just a crazy man ranting on a nerd website and everything turns out okay in the end. What do you guys think? Am I over thinking things? Sound off below!
