Two new females officially join Star Wars Episode VII, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie

There were quite a few people who were upset about the official casting news of Star Wars Episode VII due to the fact that it was a bunch of guys with only one new female. Now people can rest easy knowing that J.J. Abrams has added some spice into the cast with two more females joining the cast. That’s right, Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) and Gwendoline Christie, who is currently playing Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones.

“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

I’m very excited about this news. Lupita Nyong’o’s acting in 12 Years a Slave showed us her vulnerability and how slavery in America was a horrific experience for a female slave. She was previously in talks to be in the film, and now that it’s official, I can’t wait to see what kind of character she will be portraying in the new film.

Gwendoline Christie joining the cast in the new Star Wars film should have Game of Thrones fans happy. She’s one of those beauties who can portray a very tough and deadly knight. As for me, she’s one of the few characters in the series I can actually root for.

The two new cast members will be joining actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow, along with our favorites including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

Star Wars: Episode VII opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

So what do you guys think they will be playing? A jedi? Sith? Scoundrel? Or perhaps a Bounty Hunter?
