Monolith shows off weapon system for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

lord of the rings middle-earth shadow of mordor

When Monolith first teased us with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, I was immediately in a frenzy. I had to have this game. Since then, each little bit that I’ve seen is making me want it more and more. Sure, there has been a bit of controversy over the coding of the game, but that hasn’t stopped it from looking badass.

Monolith recently released a trailer that gives us a deeper look into the story. From that trailer alone, I could totally see Peter Jackson adapting a movie to it. Talion is a ranger that was killed by Sauron’s forces while guarding the Black Gate, but is brought back with abilities that resemble that of a wraith.

In this newest trailer, Monolith unveils the weapon and rune system used in the game. The runes help to upgrade Talion’s weapons, which are a sword, dagger and bow. Runes are found after defeating enemy captains. There are also epic runes that Talion can obtain that would give his weapons an even greater boost. Getting them however, is a bit of a task.

Talion has to threaten Sauron’s Captains through their minions (they deliver the death threat) by way of his Wraith powers. It’s almost like he has¬†power over weaker minds. Once Talion comes upon one of the threatened captains, he must defeat both him and their guards to get the epic rune. Check out the trailer below for a more thorough explanation.

Depending on where you get the game, there are pre-order bonuses available. Amazon purchasers get the Deadly Archer rune, Best Buy purchasers get the Flame of Arnor rune, Gamestop purchasers get the “Captain of the Watch” character skin as well as the Hidden Blade Rune, and Steam purchasers get the Orc Slayer rune. Anyone who pre-orders the game will receive the Dark Ranger bonus pack that includes the “Test of Power” challenge mode and another Talion skin.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor hits game shelves on October 7th for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
