How Gwen Stacy will affect the next Amazing Spider-Man movies

First, let me start off by saying that this is my opinion! So feel free to disagree. Let me know if you have other thoughts. Secondly, this has spoilers. So if you haven’t read the comics or watched the film yet, brace yourself. And lastly, if you’re not a huge Gwen Stacy fangirl like yours truly, you might not understand why I feel this way.

So we all have read the comics and bawled our heads off the moment Gwen Stacy’s neck hit the floor and made a loud snapping sound. Recently, the new movie came out and you’re a liar if you didn’t cry! I personally cried for about an hour after the movie had ended if that helps with you admitting it. To this day, I am still emotionally damaged, and I don’t think I’ll ever get over her death. That being said, I think you can already tell by now that I favor Gwen Stacy more than any other female comic book character – ever.

Stacy’s arc in the comics book stands out to me. Something about her made me feel different than Mary Jane, Felicia, and even Kitty Pryde. I didn’t get attached to any of Peter’s love interests as much as I did Gwen. However, I can assure you that her death is not the only reason I want the series to stop. Even though it is a very good reason, and it’s what this article is about.

First of all, let’s talk about the emotional connection not the comic book characters have, but the actors. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield make the perfect Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker. You can argue that, but personally I find that they fit the characters extremely well. It is no secret that the two actors are madly in love not only on screen, but in their real lives as well. So why would that be a reason? The two lovebirds have perfect chemistry. When they kiss, they’re not acting. You can even see that some of their conversations are just like the ones they have off screen. When Gwen Stacy fell to her death in the film, and Spider-Man realized that she was really gone, I felt as if he wasn’t entirely acting. Part of what Parker felt, was Garfield. Gwen didn’t just die, Emma did. You could see it in his eyes, hear it in his voice, and feel it in your heart. This is why it’s going to be extremely hard to continue on.

Being an amazing actor, Andrew Garfield could totally act to be in love with whoever they choose to make him fall in love with next. But it just won’t be the same, because he doesn’t actually love her, he loves Emma. The chemistry between the new love interest and Parker could never in a million years compare to that of Stacy and Parker. That’s why it will be hard to continue on watching the films. I feel like it won’t have the same connection.

As far as the action and plot go, I’m sure they will exceed their expectations. But when it comes to the romance side of Amazing Spider-Man, I don’t think anyone will live up to the amazing scenes Emma and Andrew provided us with. Trust me, I know that the romance in the film isn’t what we go to see the films for, however, it does play a key role in the comics and even the movie. You could argue that I feel this way just because I’m a girl, and well, you’re probably more than right.

I know that the films must go on, and that Peter will eventually move on to someone new, but regardless I still can’t help feeling a little sad knowing that that someone new won’t be our beloved Gwen Stacy. My hopes for the next movie is that they don’t hint at a love interest until the end, at least giving all of us some time to recover from the previous film.

Anyways, I guess I’ll just suck it up and move on. That’s what everyone else does right? Let me know what you think about the next love interest, and how you’re coping with Gwen’s death.

You may or may not have seen me dancing around on our YouTube channel. I really love psychology and dissecting shows/film. Also your token anime nerd.
