Street Fighter Chun-Li Bishoujo Statue review

First introduced in 1991, Chinese martial artist Chun-Li has appeared in many of Capcom’s fighting games for the last 23 years, including all of the the Street Fighter series after Street Fighter II. Powerful and beautiful, it only makes sense that Chun-Li would be the Street Fighter female to be added to Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo line designed by illustrator Shunya Yamashita.

Standing 8-inches tall, the Chun-Li Bishoujo statue is posed for battle as Chun-Li prepares to attack her opponent with her signature lightning kicks. Kotobukiya took the Street Fighter 4 design and added quite a bit of design and depth into her from head to toe with amazing colors. While you may notice the pantie shot, you also notice all the detail that was put into Chun-Li’s legs, showing off some powerful leg muscles and displaying how her hair buns and dress would be flowing after a kick like that.

While Chun-Li only has one pose after being attached to her base, I thought it would be fun to recreate a fighting scene from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and thought who better to challenge the powerful beauty other than the Hulk (interestingly enough Chun-Li’s leg actually goes higher than the Hulk Marvel Now ArtFX+ figure).

Chun-Li attracts not only fans of the Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo line, hardcore Street Fighter fans, but also any Street Fighter fan who doesn’t normally collect. Chun-Li retails for $64.99, which is well worth the price for all the work put into the piece. It is the first of the Street Fighter line with Cammy releasing in October and Juri at a later date.

The Bishoujo line is a one time print, so when the figure is gone (unless Kotobukiya decides to create a Comic-Con exclusive variant), it tends to be very hard to find outside of the second-hand market. With Chun-Li being such a popular character, this is definitely one to grab as soon as possible.

Chun-Li is currently sold out on the Kotobukiya website, but you can still pick some up from your local comic book or anime store, and Amazon.com.
