Can Spider-Man come out to play? Avi Arad says he’ll join the Avengers under one condition

Is there a change of heart occuring within The Amazing Spider-Man 2 producer, Avi Arad? Despite previous reports that Spider-Man will not crossover with the Avengers unless they’ve “completely run out of ideas”, producer Avi Arad was asked again about the possibility of a future crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time his answer is completely different than what he gave to IGN. According to him, “If we want to do that, the crossovers, it has to be a story absolutely centered on Spider-Man.” He elaborates, “We cannot be second banana to anything out there. Because this is the king. This is the one that influenced people from birth.” Well… At least it’s not a complete shut down of the idea, right?

When asked which story he would like to see adapted between the wall-crawler and the Avengers, Arad said, “I think there are some stories that will fit beautifully into a cross. Spider-Man would be incredible mixed up with those other universes.”

What do you think? Which Spider-Man centered Avengers storyline would you like to see adapted? My money is on Civil War.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out this Friday. Avengers: Age of Ultron destroys theaters on May 1st, 2015.
