The Hobbit’s third title will be ‘The Battle of the Five Armies’

With the Hobbit films, don’t expect anything to be certain. Guillermo del Toro was suppose to direct. Peter Jackson took over and planned the films to be a 2-part movie (now it’s a trilogy). The third movie was to be named “There and Back Again.” Now on his Facebook page, Jackson has decided to change the name to The Battle of the Five Armies.

He explained the reason for the change was because of where the story was taking place. Bilbo Baggins was already “there” in The Desolation of Smaug, so it wouldn’t make since for the third movie to have that title. Plus, doesn’t The Battle of the Five Armies sound cooler?

The Desolation of Smaug was just released on Blu-ray/DVD, and you can expect an extended edition to come out within a month of the released of the third film.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will open in theaters December 17, 2014.
