HBO programming coming to Amazon Prime and Fire TV

Best-HBO-SeriesWell this is a shocker. Amazon just announced today that it has signed a deal with HBO to offer their programming on Amazon Prime and Fire TV. The reason why the announcement seemed so shocking is because HBO rarely, if ever, makes any of their series available outside of HBO Go.

As part of HBO’s multiple-year deal, Amazon will able to provide previous seasons of some of HBO’s hottest series from the past. As far as the newer stuff goes, fans will have to wait three years before the content becomes available on Prime and Fire, so don’t expect to catch up on episodes of Silicon Valley anytime soon. The new HBO content will be on Amazon Prime May 21st. On that day fans will be able to view the following:

  • The Sopranos
  • Six Feet Under
  • The Wire
  • Big Love
  • Deadwood
  • Eastbound & Down
  • Family Tree
  • Enlightened
  • Treme
  • Boardwalk Empire (earlier seasons)
  • True Blood (earlier seasons)

Some of HBO’s mini-series and original movies will also be available, along with some of their comedy specials.

This announcement is truly a game changer. For a long time now, I have openly said I would have no problem paying a monthly fee to watch HBO programming without having to have a Cable or Satellite account. It probably won’t belong before Showtime follows suit.
