Watch this group’s amazing Attack on Titan inspired dance

AoT DanceWhile anime and hip-hop may appear to be an unlikely combo, this video proves that when combined they can be truly awesome. At this year’s Ultimate Brawl XIIV presented by 909 Hip Hop Dance Troupe at the Fox Performing Arts Centre a group calling themselves The Survey Corps pulled off this wicked hip-hop dance performance inspired by last year’s hit anime Attack on Titan.

Their performance, which was recorded and posted on YouTube by Gerald Nonato, even includes full cosplay, Wall Maria, and a very big guest appearance. You can watch the performance below, and while it starts with the anime’s first opening theme the dancers really shine after the two minute mark.

While they’ve certainly got amazing moves, I can’t imagine organizing a cosplay group 27 people strong, let alone getting them all to do choreography. However, this piece shows a side of nerd talent that we rarely get to see in fandom; while the deviantARTs and Tumblrs of the world are filled with cosplay, fanart and fanfiction, the performing arts are rarely showcased, and especially not on this scale. That’s what makes this video such a treat and so exciting for fans of the series.

Personally, I hope that more people will take a page from The Survey Corps’ book and let their fandoms shine through in the areas where they are the most skilled, whatever they may be.
