Roberta Firstenberg, an elderly woman, takes her last adventure with Oculus VR

Mortality can be something that gamers aren’t absolutely accustomed to. While most adventures will give us the power the continue after repeated defeat, the reality of fatality in our human bodies is inevitable. We all need to remember that there are no 1up’s in real life, and once the time comes, the memories you’ve had in the virtual and physical world are all that’s left.

For one elderly woman, video games were able to achieve what was no longer possible in the physical world. Having been diagnosed with life-threatening cancer, Roberta was no longer strong enough to traverse reality. Roberta’s granddaughter, Pri, wrote to Oculus, who sent over a kit that same day. This video not only shows the experience a person can have with this device, but the range of use this can have in any person’s life.

Roberta passed away in the next month.
