If Sony is out of ideas, then we may see a Spider-Man and Avengers crossover

Fans have been wanting Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since it’s been revealed that we were getting an Avengers film. With the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 film reported to have an X-Men: Days of Future Past scene being inserted into the mid-credits, the possibility of movie studios collaborating will surely get fans dreaming.

So what about Spider-Man being in an Avengers movie? The odds are not in our favor, according to original Marvel Studios co-founder and Spider-Man film producer Avi Arad. He says that it will only happen if “we’ve run out of ideas.”

Arad told IGN about what fans can expect:

I think I’m probably a little bit of the militant here. I think it will take a moment in which we’ve run out of ideas. There’s so much to tell about Spider-Man. There’s so much to tell about the Sinister Six. The relationship between Spider-Man and Venom will bring a whole other world in.

Avi Arad was also responsible for forcing director Sam Raimi to insert Venom into the Spider-Man 3 storyline. He’s also the guy responsible for having Hideo Kojima use Kiefer Sutherland as the voice of Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

He then proceeds to compare this to the toy industry:

“You know, in the toy business we used to make toys glow in the dark when they weren’t selling well and it gave at least another Christmas. We don’t need it yet.”
