The Last Guardian coming to E3 2014?

lastguardian-541-003-670x376Rumors are starting to stir that a release date for the long awaited The Last Guardian may come sooner than fans think. It was only a few months ago that Sony head Scott Rohde confirmed that the Team Ico title was still in development, despite its many setbacks and delays.

“That is still a title that’s absolutely in the mix at Worldwide Studios. That’s the most you’re gonna get.

We want to make great games. And when we see that the public is so interested in a specific game, of course that drives us to want to complete that game. But it also drives us to want to make it great. We would not want to ship that game if we don’t think it’s great

I love that people are still interested in it. That’s an honour to us. That’s not just me spinning. It’s really cool that people are still interested in it, and we’re trying to make the best thing we can out of The Last Guardian.”

the-last-guardian-screenshot-1Team Ico original lead Fumito Ueda left the company back in February of last year. Thankfully, he is still overseeing the development of the game as a freelance contractor and will likely stay on the project until its completion.

“While it’s been a long time coming, The Last Guardian remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

It is my intent to continue my involvement with the project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective.”

Recently, the interest in The Last Guardian sparked up again when Japanese Weekly Famitsu released “The Truth on 2014′s Rumors” issue. The magazine reached out to Sony regarding The Last Guardian’s status and was told that the company is simply waiting for the best chance to announce the title again, and that if development continues, a release date could be seen in the foreseeable future. Many outlets are speculating that we may see or at least hear of some new info on The Last Guardian at this year’s E3.

It’s hard to believe that it was nearly 5 years ago that the trailer debuted at E3 2009.
