Mario Kart 8 revs up for release with a blistering new trailer

The latest Mario Kart 8 trailer brings with it a few new tidbits to whet your appetite while waiting for the races to start. Mario can be seen throwing brotherly love right out the window with a solid knock to Luigi’s head by way of the new boomerang item. We also get a good look at a remade Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64 that features a cosmically-powered, spacefaring train.

According to Gamespot, players will be able to customize items again. Kosuke Yabuki, the game’s director, says that players will be able to choose to play with only one particular item, ban one item, or not play with any items. This is the same system that’s currently in place in Mario Kart 7 on 3DS. However, he goes on to say that they will be taking item customization to the next level. Here’s hoping that they implement a system more similar to Smash Bros. in which players are given full control over which items can be used.

Mario Kart 8 will be available May 30th on Wii U.
