Powers comic to be adapted on PlayStation under Sony Pictures TV

According to Deadline, Sony will be showing original programming on its Playstation consoles. Their first show on this endeavor will be a comic book based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s Powers. This will be produced by Sony Pictures TV, which is behind current hit shows such as The Blacklist, Hannibal and Community. They were also behind the very popular show Breaking Bad.

That is one hell of a resume if you ask me. The show will be a brand-new telling of the source material, and the man writing it will be Charlie Huston. Bendis, Oeming, Michael Dinner will be executive producers for the show. Huston and Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies) will serve as show runners.

Powers is a superhero fantasy with a mix of crime noir and police procedurals. Sony has ordered 10 episodes and each will be an hour long. The show will be set in a world where mortals and superhumans live together, but not always in harmony. This will follow Detetive Christian Walker in his daily life trying to protect humans like us from the divine men and women who are referred to as “powers” and investigating cases involving them.

There is no start date for this show yet. Now that we know Sony is joining in on the original programming game (just like Xbox will be doing for their Halo series), do you think this is a good idea? Let us know.
