With the success of The Protector (Tom Yum Goong) in 2005, director Prachya Pinkaew and martial artist Tony Jaa decided to create a sequel. This time, it will include American-born stars RZA and American martial artist Marrese Crump as the villains trying to steal Kham ‘s (Jaa) precious elephants. Kham must do whatever it takes to protect them.

Of course, we will see Thai comedian Petchtai “Mum” Wongkamlao return as Inspector Mark. He was the comic relief for the previous film and one of the most popular comedians in Thailand. He had to have a role. We will also see Yanin “Jeeja” Vismitananda fighting in this film. She is considered to be the “female Tony Jaa” after her martial arts talent was featured in the 2008 Thai film Chocolate.

The film is shot in 3D, so you will see all the hits and stunts shown in the trailer. Jaa, known for his fighting style and tough choreography, planned his stunts without wire or special effects. What you see is what you will get.

Official Synopsis:

In the sequel to Tom Yum Goong, Tony Jaa is the hard-hitting Kham. Kham is the last in long line of guards who once watched over the King of Thailand’s war elephants. Traditionally, only the perfect elephants could successfully help defend the throne, after his harrowing quest to retrieve the elephants, Kham returns to his village to live in peace. But for someone as good in martial arts as him, peace is but a wishful thought.

The Protector 2 is set to be released in theaters on May 2nd.
