Rumor: Mads Mikkelsen up for Doctor Strange and a Marvel hater wants to play him too?

Casting rumors are nothing new when it comes to the Sorcerer Supreme. A few years ago Grey’s Anatomy star and ginormous Doctor Strange fan, Patrick Dempsey, expressed his interest in the role. In addition, both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Johnny Depp were rumored for the role as well. With Marvel ramping up the search for a director and screenwriter, it’s only a matter of time before casting rumors start coming out of the woodwork.

Mads Mikkelsen Hannibal

The latest rumor comes from Bleeding Cool, who are reporting from a “pretty solid Marvel-adjacent source” that Hannibal star, Mads Mikkelsen, is on Marvel’s radar to be Doctor Strange. Mikkelsen, if you may remember, was once attached to the role of Malekith before dropping out due to scheduling conflicts because of Hannibal. Also, Mikkelsen has previously worked with potential Doctor Strange director, Nikolaj Arcel, in the film A Royal Affair. It looks as if Marvel is pretty high on the Danish actor.

If Mikkelsen were to be cast as Doctor Strange, I wouldn’t have any problems with it at all. Mikkelsen is a fantastic actor and should be great as Strange. Of course, he’d have to hide his Danish accent, but that’s nothing a vocal coach can’t cure.

In other news, Marvel hater and douchebag, Matthew Modine has also expressed interest in playing Doctor Strange. For those of you who need context on the situation, and why I’m calling him a Marvel hater and douchebag, need to read the following tweets from Modine during his promotional run for The Dark Knight Rises.

These tweets should serve as the definitive reason why Modine is absolutely WRONG for the role of Doctor Strange. Modine either is really stupid or he has a short-term memory, but the fact that he has the unmitigated gall to go to Marvel and request that they “make this happen” for Doctor Strange is not just ludicrous, it’s insulting.

Marvel Studios’ success comes from those who love the characters and the source material (see: Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon). Granted, Modine could very well be a huge fan of Doctor Strange (I highly doubt it) but his words speaks louder than his actions. Still to this day, as far as I know, he has yet to apologize for his tweets. Even if at any point he does apologize to Marvel fans, this poison should never get near a Marvel film. *drops mic*

Doctor Strange is slated to be released during Marvel’s Phase 3.
