Godzilla towers over San Francisco in brand new poster

We’ve only seen snippets here and there of the titular monster, but this time Yahoo! Movies reveals our first look at Godzilla terrorizing San Francisco. It’s a different perspective of the original poster but the new poster gives you a sense of just how damn big Godzilla is.

The early Japanese iterations of Godzilla put the giant lizard somewhere between 164-328 feet tall. Judging by the poster, Gareth Edwards’ version is going to be much more than that. San Francisco’s tallest building, the Transamerica Pyramid, is 853 feet tall and Godzilla towers over that. Yahoo! Movies is guessing that Godzilla hovers around 1312 feet tall, a 1000 feet taller than his Japanese predecessors.

Either way, judging from what we’ve seen of the film so far, it looks like the filmmakers are going for something much more terrifying than Roland Emmerich’s Godzilla. Gareth Edwards has said his monster will be “a force of nature, like the wrath of God or vengeance for the way we’ve behaved”. We can’t wait.

Godzilla terrorizes theaters on May 16.
