Agent 47 is ready to film with Rupert Friend as the assassin himself

I’ve been a HUGE, HUGE fan of the Hitman games since the very first one on PC. As we all know, the Hitman movie that was released back in 2007 that starred Timothy Olyphant as our protagonist was a mediocre movie at best. With 20th Century Fox rebooting the franchise (I don’t know if you can call it a franchise after only one movie), we’re hoping to see something more the second time around.

With the recent and unfortunate death of Paul Walker, who was supposed to play Agent 47, Rupert Friend has stepped up to fill in the part of our favorite killer. Rupert Friend has starred in the series Homeland, so I really hope he can fill these pretty big shoes. I think Timothy Olyphant did an okay job the first time around, however, this time I really hope Rupert Friend nails the role of Agent 47.

Agent 47 is supposed to be dark, brooding, calculating and cunning. Of course if you’ve played the games, he blends into the environment (despite having a bald head with a barcode tattoo on the back – go figure) and utilizes anything and everything at his immediate vicinity to take out his targets. He’s definitely not Batman, but 47 gets the job done with no questions asked. I really hope the script shows 47 as this emotionless killer at first, but eventually starts to show his human side (much like the video game storyline) when he protects the waitress from the Syndicate in the movie.

I’m very excited for this movie and I hope the re-imagining of Agent 47 finally shows what he’s capable of on screen. Personally I’d put him up there with the Mission Impossible guys, but without the hokey Michael Bay explosions. 47 needs to do what he does best, and that’s finish the contract.

Listen to 47’s theme song while we wait in anticipation.
