The teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy finally lands on Earth

[UPDATE: Gallery with hi-res screengrabs]

One of the most anticipated films to come out this year has to be Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The film, most pundits are calling “Marvel’s biggest gamble”, finally has kick started their advertising campaign for Guardians of the Galaxy by first earning headlines at the New York Toy Fair over the weekend with its Hasbro and LEGO toys, yesterday’s stills featuring the cast and Star-Lord’s ship, the Milano, and this morning’s 15 second teaser. Now, finally, the time has come and the first Guardians of the Galaxy teaser trailer has finally made its way online. Enjoy!

“I’m Star-Lord man… Legendary outlaw? …Forget it.” – Star-Lord Peter Quill

People were critical of Marvel/Disney when they decided against advertising Guardians of the Galaxy during the Super Bowl this year. But writer and director James Gunn promised we’d get something “cool” very soon and for fans to be patient. Industry insiders were saying that James Gunn was holding back any reveals of the footage until the special effects were up to the standard that he wants them to be since the entire film is based in space and two of the five main characters are entirely digitally animated.

It is finally here though! Most the cool footage shown came from the extremely early footage we saw in Hall H last year, but this time we get the footage with a “fresh coat of paint” on it. We also get our first extended look to the sci-fi, ‘50s pulp tone that director James Gunn is aiming for.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy follows Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), a child of the 80’s, as he finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), a loud-mouth anthropomorphic raccoon with a strong affinity for big guns; Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid with only three words in his vocabulary; the “deadliest woman in the galaxy” Gamora (Zoe Saldana); and the revenge-driven, dual-blade wielding Drax the Destroyer (Dave Batista). But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand against Ronan the Accuser as the galaxy’s fate lies in the balance.

Guardians of the Galaxy guards theaters on August 1st.
