What a Sly Cooper movie means for gamers

When it comes to Hollywood adapting video game franchises, well it’s pretty hard to name a spectacular one that has everybody praising it. You may have memories of a couple of movies, but chances are they contain terrible scenes or some that are so bad they’re hilarious. Hopefully this won’t be one of them.

Earlier today we posted that Sony’s Sly Cooper would be getting a CG-animated movie from Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment (to be released sometime in 2016), but before that the same team will release the Ratchet and Clank movie is 2015.

The Sly Cooper video game series uses a 2.5D cel-shaded art style (see above). Below is the CG version of the team. You can notice the differences in how the characters look. Did you also notice that Murray and Sly are now wearing pants?

For fans who played all the games, it will take some time to get used to the more humanistic-like characters, but don’t fret, the voice actors from the game will be returning.

With Ratchet and Clank coming first in 2015, these two will pave the way for future video game movies, especially ones by Sony. Maybe we can get a Killzone, Twisted Metal or even a PaRappa the Rapper movie?  It’s a pretty interesting move by Sony to use two franchises to lead head a possible entry into game movies, but it can work especially since there are fans all over the world who love Ratchet and Sly.
