Rumor: Warner Bros actually looking to Jason Momoa to play Aquaman?

Despite contrary reports that Lost star Josh Holloway would be playing Aquaman, Bad Ass Digest is reporting that another actor is being sought after instead. No, it’s not Vincent Chase, but Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa.

Recently, Momoa has told IGN that his involvement with Batman vs. Superman was “just rumors” but as we learned from Paul Rudd’s denial of Ant-Man: Actors aren’t always truthful. As Bad Ass Digest put it, I was recently told by a very, very trusted source that the role Jason Momoa was up for (but is currently denying) is definitely Aquaman, but it’s essentially a cameo setting up the next movie. Momoa’s denials today could just be a smokescreen intended to protect the surprise nature of the cameo, although if the films are shooting back-to-back we’ll know soon enough.

And what happened with Josh Holloway? Holloway’s schedule with Intelligence is almost certainly the reason why he might not play Aquaman. As Latino Review pointed out, Holloway just headlined the most-watched TV premiere of the season with Intelligence. While it’s possible that he did do a reading for Aquaman, the fact that the series could be a huge hit and turn into a long-term commitment for him could ultimately remove him DC’s plans. It happened with Tom Selleck dropping out of Raiders of the Lost Ark because of Magnum P.I. and it just happened recently with Josh Dallas dropping out of Thor: The Dark World because of his commitment to Once Upon a Time.

What do you think? Is Jason Momoa a good fit to play the “King of the Seven Seas”?

Batman vs. Superman battle in theaters on July 17, 2015.
