Just a day after news broke that Jesse Plemons is meeting with J.J. Abrams about the lead role for Star Wars: Episode VII comes even bigger news, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. The site has revealed that Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Adam Driver (HBO’s Girls) and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix) are all being considered for roles. Two sources for THR claim that Hugo Weaving is being lined up to play an Imperial commander. With this report, Fassbender, Driver and Weaving have joined the rumor mill that already includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Serenity), Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle), Jack O’Connell (Skins), Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four), Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) and Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire).

The report also states that the film has changed considerably since Michael Arndt was replaced as screenwriter. THR says that, “Arndt is said to have focused on the offspring of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), with the original trilogy heroes taking on supporting roles. Abrams, however, wanted Episode VII to focus on the classic trio of characters, so audiences could have one more chance to enjoy them before a fitting send-off. The new characters, the offspring, will now be in supporting roles, according to these sources, and take center stage in Episodes VIII and IX. Some characters have disappeared from the Arndt script and new ones are being drafted.” As a result, the type of actors that are being sought after have drastically changed.

The last bit of information that THR adds is that, “Abrams and Lucasfilm are now searching for a 20-something female actress who is either of mixed race or black. The rumor is that Obi-Wan Kenobi had a daughter or granddaughter.”
