Gilligan’s Island Reboot gets Josh Gad

Warner Bros. has recently acquired the star from Frozen, Josh Gad. He is scheduled to help write the script for the Gilligan’s Island reboot alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Gad, who is mostly known for The Book of Mormon from the Broadway musical, sounds like a fairly good choice to help pen this piece. In addition the original creator of the show, the late Sherwood Schwartz will have his sons Ron and Lloyd Schwartz executive produce the feature film.

For some of the younger audience, if you don’t know what Gilligan’s Island is, I suggest you Wikipedia it for the complete explanation. In short, it was a wonderfully funny sitcom about 7 castaways who are marooned on an island and learn to live there together, despite their differences in cultural status or personality. For some, Gilligan’s Island is a timeless classic that probably shouldn’t be touched. However, Hollywood loves their reboots.

Personally as a giant fan of the original show, this isn’t the best news I’ve heard. Gilligan’s Island was created during the 60s and had a certain innocence to it that is now all but lost in today’s television shows. Of course a piece of me wants to see how it would be retold with today’s modern style of filmmaking and technology. It’s going to be hard to believe a ship would still get marooned on a deserted island in this day and age of GPS systems, satellite tracking, and smart phones.

All I can say is, congratulations to Josh Gad and I really hope they don’t sink this remake (pun-intended).  So, just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of another Hollywood reboot!
