Facebook to begin testing video ads this week

YouTube is the number-one site for watching videos. Facebook is in second place. As of October 2013, over 70 million people have viewed videos on Facebook, and these people have viewed videos over 1.3 billion times. YouTube has been making money off videos along with helping advertisers market their brand. Facebook, however, has been serving zero ads, and that’s about to change soon.

Facebook has openly stated that it will be testing video ads this week on Facebook to select users. The lucky ad will be of the sci-fi flick, Divergent, starring Shailene Woodley, who was set to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The ads will be silent and will automatically be played when in view. If you don’t want it played, simply scroll past it. The volume will turn on when clicked on or when in full view.

Here’s a sample of how it will look like.

Some may protest about the new addition, but with YouTube getting flak for changing the comment system and taking down Let’s Play videos, Facebook may well have a chance of becoming a formidable online video site.
