Hayao Miyazaki’s last film, The Wind Rises, gets a new trailer

The Wind Rises

For Studio Ghibli fans, it’s hard to believe that The Wind Rises is going to be Hayao Miyazaki’s last film before he retires. He is a pioneer in the anime and animation industry and has influenced many others including John Lasseter (Toy Story, Toy Story 2). The film topped the Japanese box office when it opened in July 2013 and has already reached over $100 million worldwide (it hasn’t even opened in the States under Touchstone yet).

The Wind Rises is based on a true story of Japanese airplane designer, Jiro Horikoshi. At a young age, Jiro wished to fly airplanes, the problem is that he’s nearsighted. He’s still able to follow his next passion as he gets to join a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 as one of the top airplane designers. The movie follows his tale of love and friendship, and it will also follow historical events including the Great Kanto Earthquake (1923), the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and World War II.

The Wind Rises will be in limited theaters on February 21, 2014. It will open up to more theaters on February 28, 2014. It’s currently in a very, very limited released starting on November 8, 2013.
