Guillermo Del Toro breathes life back into DC Cinematic Universe

As a long time DC fan, I was quite happy with the news that Guillermo Del Toro was going to help DC out by breathing some life into their cinematic universe. But how in the hell are you basically going to resurrect that dead universe back to life? Well the answer is simple, We kill the bat… I mean with Justice League Dark.

Guillermo (yeah we are on a first name basis… okay I’m just kidding because I’m a douchebag with a popped collar) did an interview with stating that “We’re still on [Justice League Dark], writing, and hopefully it will happen but there are no developments that are new. We’re still at Warner Bros., they are making plans for the entire DC universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They’re planning on TV, movies, and all the media, so we have to fit into that plan.”

Did you guys catch that? EVERYTHING is tying in together. So what does this mean for you peeps who don’t get it or aren’t as familiar with DC as they are with Marvel? Let me explain a couple theories that I have held since the beginning that have held true so far. If you listen to our weekly podcast you know that us comic book nerds make some pretty grand theories about Marvel and DC cinematic universe and have been correct on many of our assumptions. So check it!

• First Justice League Dark’s storyline follows the supernatural heroes of the DC universe. It was suggested that the movie would include the likes of Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine, The Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon the Sorcerer and Etrigan the Demon. Most of those are pretty familiar and have teamed up with Batman, Green Arrow, Shia Labeouf and other big names. To me, this seems to be DC’s answer to Marvel’s cosmic universe and Guardians of the Galaxy. Instead of going after the cosmos, they are going after alternate dimensions similar to Dr. Strange.

• Tie-Ins. I have long suspected and included in past articles that the rumors about the Flash TV show, which originally stems from Arrow, will eventually tie into the DC cinematic universe. It seems possible, but does this mean the new Flash and Stephen Amell’s Arrow will be on the big screen? God, I fucking hope so.

• The rumors of Wonder Woman and Nightwing making an appearance in the Batman vs. Superman movie could mean a much larger Justice League movie than we anticipated.

• Could the Justice League be fighting Darkseid and his army? Will the Justice League include Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and the Green Lantern? Will any of the Justice League Dark members make an appearance as well?

Overall, the possibilities, if done correctly, for the DC cinematic universe could be epic. The one leg that DC has over Marvel, in regards to the movies, is that Fox and Sony are not holding the rights to some of their best heroes meaning DC has nearly unlimited potential. I would recommend that they learn a few things from their animated movies since those have been MUCH better than the Marvel animated movies, which is surprising, yet acts as a glimmer of hope.
