I Know That Voice World Premiere at the Egyptian Theater

I Know That Voice

I’m not sure when was the first time I’ve heard about I Know That Voice, but when I saw the first trailer I was intrigued by the premise about a documentary on the art of voice acting. Producer John Di Maggio (Bender from Futurama) wanted to create a documentary where he puts his fellow voice actors in the limelight. As Mark Hamill put it, “the most famous people you’ve never recognize” and this is true.

The extensive documentary has been in development for two years with hours and hours of footage that was shot for this documentary featuring some of your favorite voice actors. Seriously, this film covers EVERYTHING and has EVERYONE. Plenty of topics included in the documentary were:

  • The history of voice acting
  • Different techniques used by voice actors
  • Behind the scenes in the studio
  • Rise of voice acting in the video game industry
  • Anime voice acting
  • Voice actors at conventions
  • What it takes to make it in voice acting
  • And many more!

I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere with a lot of my childhood voice actors in attendance. After watching the film, I felt as if I truly learned something by watching the film. There are one thing that stood out was that the whole voice acting community is very close. In no other place in Hollywood do you refer to other voice actors for jobs if they aren’t chosen. The other thing I learned is that voice acting is truly an art form. Anyone can do voices and everyone can do imitations of famous cartoon characters. Staying in character and doing that voice is what will separate you from everyone else. Can you do a Bugs Bunny voice while reciting Shakespeare, then be able to switch characters at the drop of a hat? The ability to do something like this can separate you from everyone else.

The cast includes voice actors such as Billy West, Tara Strong, Mark Hamill, Stephen Root, Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, Nancy Cartwright, Diedrich Bader, Nolan North, Steve Blum, Cree Summer, Pam Seagal Adlon, Rob Paulsen, Jeff Bennett, Tom Kenny, June Foray, Noel Blanc, Phil LaMarr, Kevin Michael Richardson, Clancy Brown, Hank Azaria, Jim Cummings, Corey Burton, Rachel MacFarlane, Dee Bradley Baker, Charlie Adler, Andrea Romano, David Faustino, EG Daily, Grey De Lisle, Jason Marsden, Jennifer Hale, Kevin Conroy, Ed Asner, Kari Wahlgren, Robin Atkin Downes, Alanna Ubach, Kath Soucie, and more. Check out the trailer below!

I Know That Voice will be released on iNDemand on December 1st, 2013 and then on iTunes December 22nd, 2013.
