Chicago’s ‘Cell Block Tango’ gets Disneyfied

If you’re a fan of Disney, the musical Chicago, and/or a fan of Todrick Hall, you’ll love this rendition of “Cell Block Tango”, re-envisioned as “Spell Block Tango”.

If you don’t know of Todrick Hall, he was a leading contestant in Season 9 of American Idol. Winning his audition with a song he originally wrote and having a playwright background, Todrick moved on to producing various skits on YouTube, gaining his fame and continued support there.

“Spell Block Tango” takes the original song from Chicago and replaces the characters with those from the Disney franchise.

Just as the original song, “Spell Block Tango” showcases several convicted individuals guilty of some sort of crime. Although Todrick’s rendition takes some liberties with the associated Disney stories, he tries to strike a balance between the material from the animated films and the lyrics of the Chicago-based song.

I did not realize this initially, but Captain Hook in the early segment of the rendition is played by Adam Lambert (American Idol – Season 8).
