BlizzCon: Heroes of the Storm beta sign ups start today

heroesAnnounced during the opening ceremony at BlizzCon, Blizzard’s own little MOBA project, Heroes of the Storm, is finally going into beta. Sign ups for the long awaited beta will be starting sometime today, as per the announcement during the segment.

Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s answer to the ever growing MOBA field, originally named Blizzard DOTA before the naming conflicts came up with Valve and their DOTA 2 game. The game allows players to take control of characters from all of Blizzard’s main franchises, Starcraft, Diablo, and Warcraft, in a high octane MOBA format.

Also teased during the presentation was maps that include additional objectives. One map is teased as tasking players with finding gold to purchase the services of a pirate captain that can fire his cannons on the opposing team, while another tasks players with collecting bones to awaken a corpse golem to decimate the opposition. These maps will be playable during BlizzCon.
