Marvel has big plans for Punisher and Daredevil

punisher-daredevilWith Marvel now owning both the Punisher and Daredevil movie licenses, it’s only a matter of time until we start seeing these two Marvel characters back on the big screen. During the press tour of Thor: The Dark World, Brendon Connelly of Bleedingcool.com asked a few questions to Marvel President Kevin Feige, which led to both Punisher and Daredevil.

Kevin Feige’s response to a question from Brendon Connelly:

We’re trying to figure out what to do with Daredevil now. Punisher could show up at one point. You know, once we get characters back into the Marvel fold we don’t want to do something right away, we want to do the smart thing at the smart time.

I think its great that they are trying to prepare the return of the characters rather than just throw up a reboot as soon as possible. Given the minor success of the past movies with the Punisher and Daredevil, reboots are bound to drop in. Although I wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot of Daredevil, I would hate to see a new Punisher movie without Thomas Jane. I felt like Thomas Jane’s portrayal of Frank Castle/Punisher really captured the essence of a broken man bent on revenge. Most comic fans complained he didn’t truly captured the Punisher, and Ray Stevenson better displayed the viciousness of what the Punisher is capable of. I still felt like Thomas Jane humanized the character, brought it down to a realistic level of mayhem, which could’ve been driven more to madness in his quest for punishing evil doers in future sequels. The 2004 Punisher film showed Thomas Jane could portray a lost man and the 2012 Dirty Laundry fan film showed he could portray mayhem. In my eyes, Thomas Jane is Frank Castle/Punisher.
