Current sci-fi space vessel size chart includes all your favorites like Star Wars, Star Trek, Mass Effect, Doctor Who and more

A week prior, several news/blog websites had posted an impressive compilation of starships from various sci-fi franchises. The image was announced by Kirk Hamilton over at Kotaku on September 25th, 2013. The initial image, created by Dirk Loechel, showcased ships derived from:

  • Star Wars
  • Star Trek
  • Babylon 5
  • Warhammer 40,000
  • Farscape
  • Stargate
  • Robotech
  • League of Galactic Heroes
  • Independence Day
  • EVE Online
  • (Etc.)

Some viewers were a little confused by the measurements, given that only meters were shown, hoping to see all the ships compared to greater objects, like Star Wars’ Death Star. Fortunately, others have created a chart to express those measurements. And given the size of the Death Star, it must be shown in kilometers (1,000 meters = 1 kilometer).

Please note, as per the Star Wars Wiki:

The first Death Star was 160 kilometers in diameter, while the second Death Star was 900 kilometers in diameter.

Since those initial postings, Dirk has continued updating the graphic as new information comes in. Given that piece of information, I welcome you to checking out the current graphic. New inclusions are:

  • Starcraft
  • Freespace
  • Wing Commander
  • Wall-E
  • Homeworld
  • Mass Effect
