Beyond: Two Souls OST to be released on October 8

I’ve been a fan of developer Quantic Dream ever since Indigo Prophecy (known as Fahrenheit overseas). They created a PS3 action-adventure hit with Heavy Rain. Now with the PS3 almost nearing its end cycle (thanks to the PS4 console on the horizon), Quantic Dream is set to release another PS3 game called Beyond: Two Souls on October 8th. If you want to check out the demo, they will release it on October 1st on PSN.

Beyond: Two Souls video game soundtrack will also be released at the same time as the game on October 8th. Composing the game is Lorne Balfe, who has worked with legendary composer Hans Zimmer on many projects, including The Dark Knight Rises. You may recognize his works from games such as Assassin’s Creed III, Crysis 2 and Skylanders.

I recently had the chance to check out Balfe’s score for the game, and since he’s done a lot of scores for film and TV, his style blends well for Quantic Dream’s cinematic game. So far my favorite track from the score is “Lost Cause.” It has that feeling of dread while still giving hope to the player (I’m assuming the level will have Jodie on a mission of self-discovery).

Here’s what he had to say about the video game medium:

“Games are just the same as films. You start off with stills or the actual artwork that’s drawn inspiration to them,” said Balfe. “People ask is it a film or is it a game. There is no difference, not to me. You could sit there and watch it as a film. The way to musically tell the story is the same process.”
