J.K. Rowling to work on Harry Potter spin-off movie

This is definitely good news for fans who can’t get enough of the Harry Potter movies. Warner Bros. announced that there will be a spin-off of the series that’s set 70 years before the events of Harry Potter, and Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling will be writing the story herself. It will follow Newt Scamander, who some fans may recognize as the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a required textbook for Harry Potter. The name of the book will also be the name of the movie as well.

“I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about,” Rowling said, “and this is it.”

Harry Potter started out in London, but Scamander’s story will start in New York. Does this mean the film will ditch a core cast of English characters in favor of American ones? It seems so. The rules of magic should be similar, and the new film will work independently from the original series.
