Female fighters to debut in EA Sports UFC

UFC has been the go-to mixed martial arts fighting game when it was being published by THQ. That’s not saying much, since it was like the only one in the market. EA decided that it needed its own MMA fighting game with EA Sports MMA, but was met with low sales. EA’s action to create a rival MMA game didn’t sit too well with UFC president Dana White.

Now that THQ has gone under, Dana White and EA have decided to make peace. Now EA has picked up the rights to publish and develop future UFC games. The first UFC game under the EA banner will be called EA Sports UFC. This won’t be the UFC from yesteryear, since EA will be developing the game instead of Yukes.

EA has announced that the game will mark the first for UFC games to feature female fighters. Enter UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate. They will also be coaches for the upcoming reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.

“Since we added the Women’s Bantamweight division earlier this year, the women have impressed everyone,” said Dana White, UFC President. “The fights are always exciting, Ronda Rousey is as talented as any champion in the UFC and her rivalry with Miesha Tate is one of the most intense in UFC history. The female division has become a huge part of the UFC and fans will now be able to experience fighting with them in the game.”

The game will be the first to use the Ignite engine, and EA has stopped production on Fight Night to focus on this one. This is one of the many reasons why UFC is the fastest-growing sports league.

EA Sports UFC will be  is expected to be released in Spring 2014 for Xbox One and PS4.
