Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has online functionality

Zelda A Link Between Worlds Box Art

Nintendo released the box art for Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and whether or not they intended to, they’ve revved up the speculation machine. Why? Well, if you look at the top-right corner of the box, you’ll notice that there’s a “Nintendo Network” logo there. Now, it could be that somehow they used a stock image of a 3DS game box to create this image and that the logo wasn’t meant for this game, but somehow it seems doubtful that would be the case.

This mini revelation could be something great. Maybe we’ll see a return of Four Swords cooperative play, but this time with online connectivity. Perhaps Nintendo will revisit the multiplayer aspect that they’ve included in some of the most recent portable Zelda games. With these modes being online, it would be a whole lot easier for Zelda fans to find one another and get some fun online gaming going. On the other hand, this could easily be some sort of nearly non-essential content update (different colored hats, anyone?).

What do you think? Would you be open to online cooperative and/or competitive play in your brand new Zelda for 3DS? Or is it simply something that you would ignore? Let us know in the comments below.
