League of Legends is a very popular MOBA game averaging 12 million players per day. Riot Games announced that “a portion” of the North American accounts have been compromised.

What information has been accessed? Player’s usernames, emails, salted password hashes, and some first and last names. The password files are unreadable, but if a player has an easy password, they should change it immediately.

A lot of credit card information have also been accessed.

“We are investigating that approximately 120,000 transaction records from 2011 that contained hashed and salted credit card numbers have been accessed. The payment system involved with these records hasn’t been used since July of 2011, and this type of payment card information hasn’t been collected in any Riot systems since then.”

Go ahead and visit the LoL password page to change your password.

Riot Games will also beef up security, requiring North American users to automatically change their password with stronger ones.
