John Leguizami wants to play the Joker

John Leguizamo The Clown

Now that it has been revealed during the Warner Bros. San Diego Comic-Con panel that a Superman/Batman film and Justice League film will be in the works, it’s inevitable that we’re going to be seeing casting rumors and discussions about who’s going to play what in the DC Cinematic Universe. I enjoy these types of news, so let’s bring it on!

Desde Hollywood talked with actor John Leguizamo about the state of comic book movies and how minorities are underrepresented, but does he want to be the Joker?

“Just because I have to represent for my Latin people. It’s crazy. I went to Comic-Con and 50% of the nerds were Latin, Black and Asian. I said ‘Come on! We are so underrepresented and we support the whole industry.'”

Leguizamo quickly assures Desde Hollywood that he’s not out to ruin comic book movies because of his interest.

“I am not against comic-book movies. I just feel that I have seen enough zombies, vampires and apocalyptic comic-book super heroes in my lifetime. I want to see real people on screen for a while. But hell yeah, I would do Batman. The Joker would be a blast!”

John Leguizamo is no stranger to comic book movies. So far he’s been in two: Spawn and Kick-Ass 2. If he does get the part as the Joker, it won’t be his first time he’ll be playing a villain who likes to dress like a clown. In Spawn, he played as Clown, a short demon who later becomes Violator. If he somehow does get the part of the Joker, it won’t be the first time the character will be played by a Latino. Cesar Romero played the Joker in the Batman TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward.
