Extended Edition for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey heads to Blu-ray November 5th

For those of you who didn’t buy the regular edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey because you knew Peter Jackson would be releasing an extended edition, your patience has paid off. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition is coming to Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and DVD on November 5, 2014 (a month before the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on December 13th). If you want to watch the extended version earlier than that, you can with the Digital Download on October 22nd.

The extended edition will add 13 minutes of additional scenes and around nine hours of new bonus features. Now that’s lengthy (yeah, that’s what she said). There’s a 5-disc Blu-ray 3D set ($54.98 SRP) that includes Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray versions of the Extended Edition; a 3-disc Blu-ray ($35.99) and a 5-disc DVD ($34.99). These will feature audio commentary with Peter Jackson, director/producer/screenwriter, and Philippa Boyens, co-producer/screenwriter, and “The Appendices,” the documentary that covers almost everything including pre-production, principal photography, and post production.

As for me, it’s time to double dip.
