Interview with Bailee Madison on horror films and super heroes

We spoke to Bailee Madison, star of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour  at The Hub’s Network Press Event. Madison has over 30 film credits to her name and at only 13 years old, which includes Guillermo del Toro’s Don’t be Afraid of the Dark and young Snow White in Once Upon a Time. You can see her next this fall in ABC’s Trophy Wife starring Malin Ackerman.

NR: So, you’re in the R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour? Have you read his books before?

Madison: I didn’t. I knew of the fanbase it had and was excited to jump in on something everyone loved as a kid and loved growing up with.

NR: Will you be reading it after all your films?

Madison: Yes! I have to find more books to read. So, yeah. Definitely.

NR: Did you watch a lot of scary/horror films to prepare for this role?

Madison: No I didn’t. The great thing about The Haunting Hour, they’ve been so great to me. I was able to go on it as different characters in episodes and I covered all the sides from the bratty girl. Each script is beautifully written. Great script. Great crew. So the show itself is fun to get into.

NR: Do you like scary movies?

Madison: I love them. Yes, they’re so fun. I loved doing Don’t be Afraid of the Dark. I like to be scared.

NR: Favorite Scary Movie?

Madison: I’m old [13 years old], I like The Shining. I love that movie,  the kid is saying”RedRum”. I love it.

NR: If you could be in any horror remake, what would it be?

Madison: I want to be the twins in The Shining. Is that weird? Wouldn’t that be fun? They’re really fun. You don’t need to do anything and they’re scared!

NR: How was it playing young Snow White in Once Upon a Time?

Madison: I love Once Upon a Time. I loved the cast and the crew so much. Every time I’m on it, it’s a huge honor and they’re so great to me. It’s a fun challenge and Ginny (Ginnifer Goodwin) is so talented, so it’s such an honor to play her as a kid. Kind of see her mannerisms and the way that she talks – and to study that and hopefully people love young Snow as much as I do. I always get so excited when I get to go back on.

NR: If you could be any fairy tale character, which would you be?

Madison: Snow White. It’d be between Belle and Snow White, but in Once Upon a Time world, Snow White. For sure.

NR: Will we see more of you?

Madison: Hopefully! I’m always so excited when they call me!

NR: You’re on the new show with Malin Ackerman “The Trophy Wife”. She played superhero Silk Spectre II in Watchmen. If you could play any superhero, who would you be?

Madison: Um, I don’t know. Star Wars! Star Wars is doing a new movie. I’ve always wanted to hold a lightsaber.

NR: So, Bailee for Star Wars?

Madison: Yes! Let’s make it happen!
