SDCC 2013: Konami has plenty in store for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
I took a visit to the Konami booth that featured a playable demo of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, a large section dedicated to the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game which included a demo station for people who wanted to learn the game, a photo area where attendees can make their own token cards, a and Konami store that was filled with video games, toys, Yu-Gi-Oh! goodies and the Comic-Con exclusive double mat.
Coming up early next month is the Judgement of Light set featuring a few new awesome Synchro cards and support for archetypes like fiends, Photons, Galaxy, Firefist and the ever popular Prophecy/Spellbook deck. It’s a very highly anticipated set which comes out one month before the next ban list. This means you can expect some great cards to replace those banned/limited cards including a highly wanted XYZ Encore. It’s a great response to some powerful XYZ monsters.
Following Judgement of the Light is Shadow Specters, this set (available November) features darker monsters including support for the Vampire, and spirit decks while introducing Malicevorous, Tanuki, and Ghostrick type monsters.
While Judgement of the Light comes out in August, Konami will be releasing the first Deluxe Edition at the end of September which features 9 packs of Judgement of the Light, 2 ultra rare cards, 50 special edition sleeves and a Shadow Specters preview card, all within a special edition box.
Something all Yu-Gi-Oh! fans should really enjoy are the Collector’s Tins filled with Wave 1 and Wave 2, secret versions of the Tier 1 Dragon Ruler cards, and the highly wanted cards from previous sets like Ally of Justice Catastor, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and other cards that have yet to be announced. Previous Collector tins have released highly wanted cards that have been in Championship decks like Pot of Duality, Tour Guide from the Underworld, Stardust Dragon, Maxx C and Solemn Warning, which have been expensive cards in the past but made easier for everyone to add.
Wave 1 will release August 30th while Wave 2 will release November 22nd.
A blast from the past, Legendary Collection 4 Joey’s World will features cards from the original Yu-Gi-OH! TV show. For the first time ever, OCG cards Blue Flame Swordsman, Mai’s Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation, and Marik Ishtar’s Card of Last Will will be released and be legally playable just like last years Seal of Orichalcos from Legendary Collection 3 Yugi’s World.
Along with the Mega packs, each set will contain a collapsible hard-backed double-sided game board, and other promotional cards.
Another blast from the past is the Structure Deck: Saga of Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Focusing around Seto Kaiba’s legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon, this set includes some great cards from both past and present and includes the all new powerful Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon synchro monster.
Along with TCG items, Konami showcased new Yu-Gi-Oh! related goodies like pins, shirts and other things in a partnership with NECA, along with the official first season DVD release of the Yu-Gi-Oh! animated series. You can check out Konami.com for more information and card updates.
Don’t forget about Yu-Gi-Oh! Day happening Saturday July 27th, 2013.
