Nintendo Direct E3 2013, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros.

super mario 3d world 1

This E3 we heard that Nintendo was not going to be having its normal presentation at the Nokia theater. It was a tad strange considering the numerous times that Nintendo had attended in such a way over the years. Well, I have to say one thing: Nintendo brought the fun. While other developers are hard at work on realistic portrayals of violence (some of which I plan on playing), Nintendo brought games that had a much more lighthearted nature.

Super Mario 3D World 1

Super Mario 3D World debuted today, and it looked fantastic. It has a world that looks very similar to the one found in Super Mario 3D Land, but much more expanded. Of course, it needs to be expanded because the game allows for up to four players on the field at once.

Super Mario 3D World 2

There was another surprise concerning Mario 3D World: the characters each had their own specialties. Peach can float just like she used to in Super Mario Bros. 2, Toad can run fast, Luigi can jump high, and Mario is…dependable? The game looks like a ton of fun. They even decided to bring back Kuribo’s Shoe from Super Mario Bros. 3 (the green boot). In the video, the characters could be seen ice skating around.

Super Mario 3D World 3

The game itself debuted a new suit for Mario and friends to use: The Cat suit. With it, players will be able to do a slash attack on enemies, perform a diagonal diving attack, and climb up walls.

Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart 8 made its debut as well, bringing a new perspective to the series. Mario Kart 8 is taking a page from F-Zero by having tracks that go straight up, upside down, and sideways. The vehicles’ wheels transform into anti-gravity-like wheels when necessary. No new attack items were shown.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U 3DS 1

Super Smash Bros. as the title was simply called, will arrive on 3DS and Wii U in 2014. The game looked similar to past games in the series, but with greater detail afforded by the power of the Wii U. An Animal Crossing character (a male avatar) has made the roster, displaying skills such as chopping down trees and tripping with a potted plant in his hands. A strange move-set, sure, but an interesting addition nonetheless.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U 3DS 2 mega man

Then it happened. At the end of the video, when people thought it was all over, Mega Man showed up onto the scene. Mega Man will use Rush, his pet robot dog, Metal Man’s blades, and his standard buster. He also inexplicably had a shoryuken, but I guess that’s to make up for Street Fighter characters not being in the game.
